I saw a sky with clouds that held stories and fables and an ethereal land below.

On June 14, 2025, I was putting the last touches on this painting when the news broke that Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark had been murdered in their home in Brooklyn Park. Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were shot in their home in Champlin and survived. I didn’t know what to do with that. So I did what I often do, I etched something into the paint….this time it was the coordinates of both homes. A form of witness. Then I toned them down. Then I put the painting away.
I came across it recently. Remembered that day. And everything that’s happened since.
Minneapolis is forever etched in our hearts and minds.
